Fish In Some Area Waterways Could Be Contaminated

Posted by wlpo on January 22, 2011

A couple area streams are on an advisory list for fish.

Bureau Creek in Bureau County and the Fox River in La Salle County are on the 2011 Sports Fish Consumption Advisory put out by the department of public health.  The state has taken samples from Bureau Creek and the Fox River and determined there’s a low-level exposure to pesticides and chemicals.

The advisories for both involve carp and channel catfish.  Department of Public Health Director Dr. Damon Arnold says the advisory isn’t meant to discourage people from eating fish, “but should be used as a guideline to help decide the types of fish to eat and how often.”
