Big Pot Bust Near Peru

Another California native has been busted for drugs on Interstate 80 in the Illinois Valley.

Harvey Beartrack was pulled over Tuesday night just west of the Peru exit.  He’s accused of hauling 106 pounds of marijuana.

Beartrack is charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.  He’s in the La Salle County Jail on $150,000 bond.

Shannon Children Get Guardians

With their father dead and their mother missing, four young children of Dale and Tanya Shannon will be under the supervision of an aunt and uncle.

Donna Baker of Seneca and her brother Duane Shannon of Chatsworth were appointed guardians yesterday of the Shannon children.  The ruling was made by Circuit Court Judge Eugene Daugherity.

Baker and Shannon now become responsible for “the care, nurturing and education needs” of the girls who range in age from 4 to 15.  The guardians are also responsible for money coming in to help the girls like donations.

Baker and her husband have been caring for the girls since the December 5th crash.

Ottawa Has Rash Of Business Break-Ins

There’s apparently a scrooge or scrooges running around Ottawa these days.

Ottawa Police are investigating a string of business burglaries that happened sometime Monday morning.  Detective Scott Cruz says two restaurants were broken into and a downtown laundromat.   Cash was taken from all three.

Based on evidence gathered, Cruz thinks they’re all related.  He wouldn’t say if they have a suspect or suspects at this time.

Pair indicted, accused of breaking into La Salle store

One of the men accused of breaking into a liquor store in La Salle could be spending Christmas in jail.

Justin Evans was still being held in the La Salle County Jail when he was indicted Tuesday for burglary.  Investigators say they found Evans and Russell Houston of La Salle burglarizing the 351 Mini Mart.

Officers say they found them inside of the store after closing hours last week.  Houston was indicted yesterday for burglary and possession of burglary tools.  He’s free after posting bond.

New addition sworn in to Granville board

There’s a new face on the Granville Village Board.  Robert Fescenmeyer was sworn in Tuesday night, replacing David McMullen who moved out of the village. His appointment will last until the spring election.
