News from the Illinois Valley

winter storm is with us

Posted by wlpo on December 12, 2010

More snow and high wind gusts are coming our way this Sunday. The effects of this winter storm likely will linger into Monday. The National Weather Service says the Blizzard Warning for Bureau and Putnam counties will end at Noon, however; the winter storm warning for LaSalle County will not end until midnight Sunday. Perhaps 3 – 5 inches of additional snow could fall north of I-80 today and 1 – 3 inches south. Winds with gusts of 45 mph are expected through the day. White out conditions may occur in open rural areas. Visibility could be down to ¼ mile or less. If you must travel, take an emergency survival kit and a cell phone. Let someone know what route you’ll be taking. A listener to 99-3 WAJK said he experienced near white-out conditions about 6:30 Sunday morning on Route 34 between LaMoille and Princeton.  Check out website am 1220 wlpo.com (993wajk.com , 20inarowcountry.com) for our list of cancellations and postponements
