Snowy Weather Has Drivers Slowing Down

Snow is making driving difficult.  Slow down if you need to travel.  State Police in La Salle reported several accidents on Interstate 39 north of Interstate 80 including some rollovers.

Winter Weather Advisory

The snow trucks are busy.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the entire listening area until 4 Saturday afternoon for snow.   Snow came down overnight at a half inch per hour in some spots.

Once the snow moves out, cold weather settles in with wind chill values reaching below zero Saturday night.

Ottawa Call Center Closing

Around 100 workers are losing there jobs with a call center closing in Ottawa.

Infinity Resources just north of Interstate 80 is closing as of January 31st.  The company was bought last month by Super D Wholesaler, which takes orders for CD’s and DVD’s.

The writing was on the wall for the Ottawa call center when Super D mentioned only that a facility in Itasca would continue to operate after the purchase.  Work being done in Ottawa will transfer to Itasca according to company officials.

The call center opened in Ottawa in 2006.

Construction crane at IVCH building project coming down for the winter

The giant crane aiding in the construction of an addition to Illinois Valley Community Hospital will be coming down for the winter.

The crane has been up for several months as crews build new obstetrics and intensive care units by constructing extra floors to the hospital.

Gene Vogelgesang at IVCH says the plan is to use it next week before taking it apart for the winter.  Interior work will continue during the winter months.

Vogelgesang says work is on schedule with completion expected for the summer.  They want to have it open to patients next fall.

Drug charges for Iowa pair

A trip through Illinois turned into a night at the La Salle County Jail for a couple of people arrested for drugs.

Police stopped Karmelle McGee of Waterloo, Iowa for speeding and a loud muffler on Interstate 80 Thursday night.  She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, ecstasy.  A man with her, Michael Snow of Waterloo, was arrested for possession of cannabis.  Both were taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Holiday Magic to fill downtown Marseilles

People in Marseilles will be celebrating the holiday season from morning into night.

“Holiday Magic in Downtown Marseilles” starts at 5:30am Saturday with holiday breakfast specials and wraps up at 7pm with wine tasting.  In between there are holiday open houses, a parade, visits with Santa, and tree decorating.

There’s also a 50/50 Holiday Raffle that will be announced during the lighting of the trees at 4:30pm.
