Can you shake the “blues” this holiday season? Have you lost a close friend? Ottawa Regional Hospital “Blue Christmas Service” acknowledges that some really don’t feel joyful at this time of the year. The service, also sponsored by the hospital’s Hospice unit will be 6:30pm December 7 in the chapel. Rev. Cheryl Roberts will host the free event open to the public. Refreshments afterwards. Did you work hard enough this year to earn free turkey from your employer? Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating recently gave its Ottawa employees some 13-hundred fifty two pounds of turkey, over a hundred pounds of nuts and one hundred four nutcrackers to thank them for their dedication and hard work during this holiday. Suspect search in officer’s death

Chicago police and community volunteers are passing out fliers seeking information in the fatal shooting of an officer and another man. Evidence technician Michael Flisk was killed Friday while processing a burglary scene at a garage on the city’s Southeast Side. The Chicago Tribune reports family members identified the other victim as 44-year-old Stephen Peters.

More gold in the Salvation Army kettle

The Aurora Salvation Army says it’s found a one-ounce gold South African coin in one of its kettles. The coin
was put in a kettle on Nov. 19 in Naperville and is worth more than $1,000. The coin shows up in Salvation Army kettles anonymously every season.

Utica Christmas in the Village

A chili tasting and carriage rides are some things you’ll find in Utica Sunday. Christmas in the Village runs 1:30 – 5pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at 2. Activities and crafts will be available. Some restaurants will participate in the chili tasting. The lighting of the Village Christmas Tree is at 5pm in Memorial Park.

Lockport man arrested

31-year old Quinton Herrod of Lockport was taken to LaSalle County Jail Sunday. He was arrested at 1:25am Sunday by Mendota police after a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of South 9th avenue. Herrod was charged with domestic battery, criminal trespass to state supported land and warrants out of LaSalle, Putnam and Will counties.
