Packed house for Taste of Home Cooking School

A stove, refrigerator and cabinets created a makeshift kitchen on the stage of Mattheissen Auditorium and the audience was nearly at capacity.  Over 1,100 people turned out Saturday afternoon for the Taste of Home Cooking School.

The program based on the popular magazine showed you how to prepare dishes using a chef, several assistants and large TV screens.

Tina Garncarz of Dalzell sat front and center with two kids and her mother.  They were excited.

Cook Guy Klinzing took the audience through breakfast and entrees.

Before the show people were able to visit area business booths that were set up in the hallway and cafeteria at LP High School.  The MC’s were 96.5 the Wolf’s Clare Bennett and Cowboy.

Robert Louis Stevenson topic of lecture

If you enjoy the work of Robert Louis Stevenson you’ll be interested in the upcoming Second Sundays lecture at the Hegeler-Carus Mansion.

The topic will be “Robert Louis Stevenson: Myths Revealed.” Storyteller Tricia Kelly will be leading the program.

The program begins at 4 pm Sunday.  Admission is free, but they’ll accept donations.

Christmas house walk in Ottawa

The spirit of Christmas has arrived in Ottawa.  “Deck the Hall ten” includes a house walk featuring five homes uniquely decorated for Christmas.  There will also be a craft show and raffles at the Ottawa Knights of Columbus.

The house walk is from 11am-5pm Sunday.  Tickets are $15. The craft show is from will 10am-5pm.

Proceeds go to the Ottawa Regional Hospital auxiliary for the purchasing of medical equipment.

Man accused of stealing copper

Copper is a popular material for thieves.  A copper theft in Streator had a man arrested Friday afternoon.  Jacob Selvidge of Streator was arrested for theft after someone called the cops about a man stealing copper from a truck parked behind a business.

Selvidge was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Teams needed for annual Jingle Bell run-walk

Are you up for a challenge or maybe a jog around Baker Lake?  The annual Jingle Bell 5K Run-Walk for Arthritis is Saturday, December 4.

Area school groups are encouraged to form teams and compete during the race.  It’s part of Dr. Paul Perona’s $500 challenge.

Perona awards a matching gift up to $500 for the school or youth club team that raises the most money.  Registration is 100 dollars for a team of five.  Each will receive a long-sleeved shirt and laces.  If you sign up online by Tuesday you can have your team name printed on the shirts.

Taste of Home Cooking School comes to La Salle

If you think you’re talented in the kitchen or would like to be, you’ll learn a thing or two during a program at LP High School Saturday afternoon.

The Taste of Home Cooking School features a chef teaching you recipes from the popular magazine.  Area vendors will also be set up before the show.

Some tickets are available at the door.  Doors open at noon.  The show begins at 2:30pm.

The Taste of Home Cooking School is presented by AM 1220 WLPO and the Newstribune.
