La Salle County sales tax revenues increasing

After a down month, Public Safety Sales Tax revenues shot back up in La Salle County.

Sales tax receipts for July totaled over $217,000, up 4% from the year before.  Sales tax numbers have improved eight of the last nine months in the county.

La Salle County has taken in $45,000more in Public Safety Sales tax money this year compared to the halfway point of 2009.

Hours announced for Marseilles State Fish and Wildlife Area

One of the places to go deer hunting in La Salle County is ready for the season. The Marseilles State Fish and Wildlife Area is a 2,500 acre space used by the Illinois National Guard and hunting programs. In October hunting will be allowed Monday through Thursday expect in areas where the guard will be training. The check station will be open October 18 through October 28 from 6am until 8p.m. The site will be open seven days a week in November until November 21. Starting November 22, the site will only be open Wednesday through Sunday. The check station will be open November 1 through November 30 from 5:30a.m. until 7p.m.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate receives PJ Star endorsement

The Peoria Journal Star has endorsed Republican Congressman Mark Kirk in his race for the U.S. Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama. The newspaper praises Kirk as a “a thoughtful, independent, moderate conservative in a Washington that has too few of those.” Kirk currently represents the 10th Congressional District in Chicago’s north suburbs.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is endorsing Illinois Democrat Alexi Giannoulias.  The newspaper calls Giannoulias and his opponent, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk, “intelligent, with solid temperaments” and says both are well-qualified. Giannoulias is currently Illinois’ treasurer.

Man injured after campground “horseplay”

Horseplay about 2:30am Sunday in a Seneca campgrounds sent a man to Morris hospital. LaSalle County sheriff office says Joseph Longoria of Chicago was driving in Woodsmoke Ranch while Taddeus Martyka of Hometown was hanging on the back.   Police say Martyka was thrown from the car and injured.

Longoria was charged with driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was taken to LaSalle County jail.
