“Buckets of Love” collecting items for victims of domestic abuse

Posted by wlpo on October 16, 2010

Listen to the news everyday and you’ll hear the occasional arrest for domestic battery.  Many times it goes unreported.

An area organization isn’t letting the problem go unnoticed, especially since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  The Zonta Club of the La Salle- Peru Area is trying to get the word out about how domestic violence affects the community and they’re trying to get people involved in helping those who have been affected.

On Saturday, October 23 they’ll be at several Peru stores collecting donations for women affected by domestic violence.  They’re calling their effort “Buckets of Love.”  You’ll be able to donate items that women can use as they move from a shelter to a new home.

You can also donate money.  Donations will be given to The ADV&SAS.

You can learn more about domestic violence at the annual “Luminary of Hope.” It’s being held October 26 at 6pm at the Hegeler Carus Mansion.

To find out more about the Zonta Club’s efforts, listen to an interview available at the AM 1220 WLPO news page.
