A Peru comany and City of Princeton to benefit from energy grants

Going green is the latest trend in industry.  A company in Peru is receiving a grant to retool their operations to become more efficient.

Unytite makes heavy equipment nuts and bolts.  The grant they’ll be using comes from the State Energy Plan using money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Warren Ribley, and company representatives will be talking about the funding Monday morning in Peru.

Ribley will also be making a stop in Princeton to meet with city officials to go over money for energy efficiency steps the city is taking, including Smart Grid technology.

Branch chipping Monday in Oglesby

People in Oglesby who’ve been doing fall yard work can have their branches chipped Monday.  Have your branches on the berm before 6am Monday.  Branches should be in 4x4x4 bundles.

Food, games and music at Lostant Fall Festival

It’s a good day for chili and there will be plenty of that at a chili cook off in Lostant Saturday.  It’s part of the Lostant Fall Festival.

There will also be apple butter making in the park, a baked goods tent and other food stands.

There will also be activities for kids such as pony rides.  The day wraps up with a beer garden at the fire station.

Immigration topic of discussion at IVCC

Immigration and immigration will be the topics of a presentation Wednesday at Illinois Valley Community College.

Rockford-area immigration lawyer Sara Dady will talk about immigration and immigration reform, focusing on the difficulty of immigrating legally to the U.S. She will also provide information about getting legal status in the United States.

The program is from noon until 1:30p.m. Wednesday in Room C316 and is open to everyone.

Comedy and music make up variety show

Do you need a laugh or maybe just something to do Saturday night?  Doctors and a talented dog will take the stage at LP High School tonight for the IVCH Foundation Community Variety Show.

The show is a fundraiser for IVCH’s new obstetrics and intensive care units.  It’s a $15.5 million project.

The program begins at 7pm in Matthiessen Auditorium.  Admission is $15.  You can get tickets at the door.

MC’s for the evening will be La Salle County Broadcasting’s John Spencer and Bev Sons.
