Suspicious Package Detonated In Oglesby

Posted by wlpo on September 13, 2010

It was far from an uneventful Sunday for emergency crews and police in Oglesby.

Just before 9:45 yesterday morning, a city worker reported a suspicious package near the city sewage plant.  A hazmat team took a look at the package which Police Chief Jim Knoblauch says was actually a bucket with liquid inside.  The liquid was determined to be cottonseed oil.

A bomb squad from Kane County was then called into to look at a jar inside the oil.  They took the jar to a secure place and detonated it according to Knoblauch.  Knoblauch says the jar was determined to have a petroleum base product that could’ve started a fire but not caused an explosion.

If you have information about the suspicious package, call Oglesby Crime Stoppers.
