They’re making adjustments and trying to be smart about spending in the Peru Public School District but they still expect a deficit budget.
A tentative $11.3 million budget including an estimated $1 million deficit was placed on file this week. Superintendent Mark Cross says it’s very tentative and he hopes to cut back spending before the budget is formally approved.
Making up the deficit is $286,000 in the capital fund from the Parkside School construction. The bulk of the deficit is in the education fund which is estimated to fall short by $610,000. Cross says they ended the last budget $45,000 short in the ed fund because of missed stated payments.
Cross says they’ve made some adjustments but haven’t cut anything like reading improvement and preschool.
The have a slightly smaller staff this year thanks to retirements.
