The Chapel Street water main replacement project will be the topic of an informational meeting Monday evening at Ottawa City Hall. McClure Engineering will be presenting a presentation on the project and taking your questions. The meeting begins at 6pm.

Sweet corn fest prevue

Girls too young for the “Sweet Corn Queen Pageant” in Mendota this week can still get pampered at “Giggles and Glamour” Thursday at Mendota Civic Center. Young ladies can feel like they are prepping for the Thursday night “corn queen pageant” by having their hair, eyes and nails done and receiving a 5 X 7 glamour picture. This is for girls ages 4 – 12 starting at 1pm Thursday. Cost is $10 per girl. A reservation must be made by calling 539-3411.

Engle Lane Vissering contract

A theater in Streator that was severely damaged by a tornado in June will be restored. The Community Players of Streator’s board of directors recently hired Vissering Construction of Streator to rebuild and repair damaged parts of Engle Lane Theater. Work will begin immediately. The tornado caused them to cancel the remainder of their 2010 season.

Grand Ridge cornfield accident

A 27-year old Mount Vernon woman was taken to a hospital after her car stopped some 300 feet inside a corn field Saturday morning. La Salle county Sheriff’s office say 27-year old Emily Love’s car left North 21st road, about a mile east of Grand Ridge around 5am Saturday. For unknown reasons, Love’s car entered the south ditch, crossed the road, struck a fence and post and traveled three hundred twenty four feet into a corn field before stopping. Love was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator. No tickets were issued.

Cape Seal road work

If the weather is good tomorrow (Monday) morning, crews will begin working on a couple of La Salle County roads.Crews are applying a chip seal and returning a few days later to add a micro-surface for a smooth surface.They’ll be working on Seneca Road from Route 6 to the Morris Blacktop and Hoxsey Road from Route 52 to North 46th Road. Work beings tomorrow and will take about a week and a half.
