Chamber of Commerce Warns of Solicitor

Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce members think a solicitor is trying to mislead area businesses.

According to an IVAC press release, someone is calling area businesses about a new map saying they’re from the chamber.  IVAC officials say they’re not developing a new area map this year and don’t plan to.

IVAC’s Sue Bates says when they do new maps, businesses will be contacted for a personal visit, not called over the phone.

Meth Arrest In Bureau County

A man and woman from Bureau County are accused of having meth in their home.

Investigators with TRIDENT did a search warrant last Thursday at the Sheffield home of Brock Obryant and Katrina Robinder.  While inside, officers allegedly found 1.5 grams of meth.  Obryant and Robinder were arrested on a count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a class 3 felony.  Obryant was already wanted on several warrants.

Both were taken to the Bureau County Jail.

Teen Drowns Near Sheridan

La Salle County Coroner Jody Bernard says 19 year old Neil Blackwell of Sheridan was pronounced dead after his body was pulled out from underwater.

Investigators say Blackwell was swimming with a group of friends north of Sheridan when he disappeared underwater and never came back up.  Ottawa River Rescue members found his body around 11 o’clock last night.

The drowning remains under investigation.

Block of 11th Street closed for repairs

You’ll have to go a block out of your way if you take 11th Street in La Salle Wednesday.  Workers are replacing a traffic censor that was damaged during a water main break.

A block of 11th Street from Marquette to Joliet will be closed while they’re working.  North-south traffic on Rt 351 isn’t affected.

“Back to the 80’s” to begin run at Stage 212

You won’t need a Delorean to experience time travel in La Salle.  Just a ticket to Stage 212’s “Back to the 80’s”.

The jukebox musical opens Friday.  Jeff Horger is the director.  He says it’s a story everyone can relate to, not just people who grew up in the 80’s.  The musical numbers are popular songs from the decade.

It stars Scot Smigel as the narrator.  It runs for three weekends.  Tickets are $16.

La Salle County 4-H begins today

It’s time for the annual La Salle County 4-H Fair.

The fair gets going tonight at seven with a truck and tractor pull.  AM 1220 WLPO’s John Small will call in reports this evening.

Thursday marks the start of livestock and project judging with a rodeo starting at seven.  There will be another tractor pull Friday night at the fair before Saturday night’s Demolition Derby.

The La Salle County 4-H Fair ends Sunday afternoon with a Parade of Excellence.
