River rescue turns out to be false alarm

Posted by wlpo on July 8, 2010

A rescue on the Illinois River looks was a false alarm.  Rescue crews from Utica, Oglesby, and Ottawa were on the river east of the Starved Rock lock and dam looking for a couple of canoes that had reportedly overturned.  The search was stopped a little over an hour after it began because no canoes or people were found.

It was called in shortly before 4pm Thursday by a couple hikers.  Investigators believe they probably saw debris.
