Peru woman heads to South Korea to teach

Posted by wlpo on July 2, 2010

A tough job market has a woman from Peru looking overseas to finding employment.

Last summer Kelly Bryan returned from two years of teaching English in Japan with the hopes of finding a job in her field or entering grad school.  But after months of hearing no thanks from jobs and colleges, she’s returning to teaching English as a second language in Asia.

She says had she known what the economy was like in the US, she would have stayed in Japan.  She feels like her degree and her abilities are more valuable in other countries than they are in the US now.

She says she would eventually like to get a job teaching English as a second language in the US.  She’s already spent a semester volunteering with the I-Read program.

She leaves for South Korea this weekend.  She’ll go through two weeks of training and then begin teaching.
