Ag Dept. sprays for gypsy moths

Posted by wlpo on May 15, 2010

There’s another pest besides Emerald Ash Borer to worry about.

Illinois Department of Agriculture workers are spraying around Sheridan trying to kill Gypsy Moths.  The moths feast on foliage of trees and shrubs and are capable of stripping plants completely bare.

Ag officials started spraying an insecticide Friday from the air near Sheridan, Amboy and Newark among other places.  Last year, they sprayed for Gypsy Moths at Matthiessen and Starved Rock State Parks.

The spray is said to be environmentally friendly.
