Thousands Raised At Telethon

The 30th edition of the Easter Seals of La Salle and Bureau County telethon is in the books.

When the telethon went off the air at 10 Saturday night, just over 175 thousand dollars was raised to help Easter Seals provide help to children and adults with disabilities.  Last year’s event when all donations were counted raised 217 thousand dollars.

Miller Group Charitable Trust was this year’s VIP Campaign Chair.  Miller Group Charitable Trust includes AM 1220 WLPO, 96-5 the Wolf, 99-3 WAJK, the News Tribune and Agri News.

Ambassador children for Easter Seals this year are Landon Nighsonger of Henry and Grayson Stellpfug of Ottawa.

Hide The Plants

With seasonably cool weather back this weekend, you may want to bring the plants in.

The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for the entire listening area until Sunday morning at 7.

Temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning could get cool enough to develop frost which could kill vegetation.

Political Dinner Time

Even though the election isn’t until November, democrats and republicans in La Salle County are rallying the troops in the next few weeks.

The democrat’s annual Jackson Day Dinner is tonight at the Knights of Columbus in Ottawa.  State Representative David Miller of Chicago and chief of staff for State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Robin Kelly will be the featured speakers.  Miller is running for the state comptroller job and Kelly is seeking to become state treasurer.

La Salle County republicans are gathering May 21st at Celebrations 150 for a “New Beginnings Dinner”.  Gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Bill Brady is the keynote speaker.  U.S. Congressional candidate Adam Kinzinger is also expected to be there.

Women Sent To Hospital After Car Rolls

Two Streator women were hurt after rolling their car last evening.

According to the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, Angelica Moreno lost control on the gravel of North 14th Road and flipped her car multiple times.  She and her passenger, Nicolette Berninger were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator.

No tickets were issued.  The crash happened around 5:30 Friday evening.
