Major Construction For Illinois Valley

Some major road projects in the area are included in the governor’s six year highway improvement program.

Scheduled for this construction season is 29 miles of resurfacing of Interstate 80 at various spots in La Salle County along with about two miles of Route 351 in Oglesby getting new culverts and sidewalks.  The Oglesby stretch is also going to get resurfaced.

Longer-term projects not set to start this year are: resurfacing of Route 178 through Utica; resurfacing from the Route 251 bridge in Peru to the Oglesby Spur; and resurfacing of Route 6 from just east of Spring Valley to Union Street in La Salle.

Pair Indicted For Burglarizing Three Peru Stores

Two Lockport men have officially been charged with a burglary heist in Peru.

Anthony Esco and Andre Nash were indicted this week for burglary.  They’re charged with breaking into Big Lots, Rental Pros and Napa Auto Supply of Peru on February 11th.  They allegedly took cash, merchandise, a safe and a U-Haul.

Esco and Nash are currently in the Will County Jail, accused of several other commercial burglaries in the southwest suburbs.

Leepertown School Picked For Concert For A Cause

It’ll be another Bureau County school benefitting from Lou’s LaGrotto’s “Concert for a Cause”.

Leepertown Grade School in Bureau is the beneficiary of the June 18th concert featuring REO Speedwagon.  JFK Elementary in Spring Valley was picked last week to reap the benefits of the August 14th Lady Antebellum show which is sponsored by 96-5 the Wolf.

Tickets for REO Speedwagon go on sale next Friday.  Tickets remain on sale for Lady Antebellum.

Shooting Under Investigation In Peru

Peru Police are investigating shots being fired at an SUV.

Just after 11 o’clock last night, police were called by someone living in the 1000 block of Plain Street about hearing either gunshots or firecrackers.  When police arrived, they found an SUV owned by the 911 caller had been shot four times.  One of the bullets also ricocheted and broke a window at the victim’s home.  The SUV was unoccupied at the time of the shooting.

Earth Day Cleanup At Local Park

Doing anything to help the environment for Earth Day?

Allied Waste and Land Comp Landfill workers in Ottawa are marking the occasion by cleaning up Lincoln-Douglas Park on Route 6 in Ottawa.  The cleanup happens tomorrow from two until seven.

If you can spare some time, they need volunteers for tomorrow’s cleanup.  If you have a rake, bring it.
