Mulch Fire At Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut in Peru may need some new landscaping.

Peru firefighters were called to the restaurant just before 1:30 Wednesday afternoon after some landscaping mulch caught fire.  The fire was contained to the mulch and didn’t affect the building.

The restaurant is open as usual.

Teen Dies After Starved Rock Crash

A DeKalb teen has died after losing control of his motorcycle driving through Starved Rock.

18 year old Kevin Gibson was pronounced dead just after one o’clock Wednesday morning by Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll at St. Francis Medical Center.  He was flown there Tuesday after losing control of his bike while going around one of the curves near Lone Point Shelter on Route 71.

Investigators think Gibson went of the road and laid the bike on its side while be thrown from the bike.  He was wearing a helmet.

Kinzinger Talks Jobs In Ottawa and Princeton

During stops today in Princeton and Ottawa, Adam Kinzinger told Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson to “move past her unhealthy fixation on government-run health care” and put people back to work.

Kinzinger is on what he calls the “Putting America Back to Work” tour.  He announced a five-step plan for economic recovery.  Kinzinger wants to: eliminate business uncertainty; extend tax cuts for businesses; support business tax incentives; end unnecessary spending; and aggressively explore energy resources like wind, nuclear and off-shore oil.

Kinzinger is trying to unseat Halvorson in the November election.

Motorcycle accident sends a man and a woman to the hospital

A motorcycle accident on Route 23 has left a woman hospitalized in Peoria.  Police say Brian and Carol Palko of Streator were thrown from their motorcycle after Brian lost control Tuesday afternoon a couple of miles north of Streator.

They were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and then St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  Brian was treated and released.  Carol is in fair condition.
