Bid awarded in Plank Road sewer and water extension

Posted by wlpo on April 13, 2010

Work to extend water and sewer lines north along Plank Road in Peru is a step closer to beginning.

The city council Monday night hired Merryman Excavating for $1,030,478.  They were the lowest bidder.

Engineer Roger Chamlin says they’ll start once they have the necessary easements, which could be two to three weeks away.  He says the council needed to approve the bid last night so the contractor could order materials.

The work will span from near the Army Reserves armory to Interstate 80.  Chamlin believes it will take the entire construction season to complete.

The project is being paid for using federal Recovery Zone Bonds.  The federal government will reimburse the city up to 45% of the interest.
