Fire displaces family at Plow Creek Fellowship

Posted by wlpo on April 11, 2010

A family that’s part of a religious farming community near Tiskilwa is staying in a temporary home after fire destroyed their duplex.

Fire fighters from all over Bureau County were called to “Plow Creek Fellowship”, a 12 family Mennonite Community, Saturday evening.

Steven Graham says he returned from Princeton to find his home was burning.  He says he found a blessing when he learned his wife and five children were safe.  He says at least ten fire departments were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  It’s believed to have started near the back porch.

The family is staying in the community’s meeting house until they can find another place to stay.

Fire fighters called to overnight blaze in Peru

Posted by wlpo on April 11, 2010

A house fire in Peru had crews out overnight.  Fire fighters were called to the home on Rock Street shortly before 3am Sunday and were there for about two and a half hours.  An investigator with the state fire marshall’s office was on the scene later Sunday morning trying to determine a cause.
They have not said who owns the home or if anyone was injured.  Volunteers with the Illinois Valley Chapter of the Red Cross were called to help the people that lived there.  You’ll hear more as it’s made available.
