Woman arrested for allegedly filing false police report

 If your friend wants to use your debit card, you’d be better off saying no.  That’s the advice coming from the Peru Police Department. 

          They bring up debit card safety after investigating a woman who claimed someone had used her debit card to take over 500 dollars from her bank account.

          Police say Christina Wawerski of Peru made the complaint last month, but while investigating they say the realized she had given her card and PIN to a friend and filed a false police report.

          A warrant for felony disorderly conduct was issued for her Wednesday.  She turned herself in Friday was released after posting bond.

Motorcyclist hospitalized after crash in Peru

 With the weather warm again, expect to see more people riding motorcycles.  There’s already been one serious accident involving a motorcycle.

          Steven VanDewy of Sparland was in fair condition Saturday at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after an accident with a minivan Friday afternoon in Peru.

          Police say VanDewy was heading north on Route 251 near I-80 when he crashed with a minivan that didn’t have the right-of-way.

          VanDewy and his wife Amanda were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital.  He was flown to Peoria.  She was treated and released. 

          The man driving the minivan, Robert Emerson of Springfield was given a ticket for not yielding while turning left.

La Salle man faces weapons charge after TRIDENT search

A search of a home in La Salle left a man facing a felony weapons charge.  Police with TRIDENT went through Edward Mayerchin’s home on 2nd Street in La Salle Fridday afternoon.

          Mayerchin was arrested for possession of a weapon by a felon, a class two felony.  He was also arrested for allegedly having a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  He was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

          Richard Danner of La Salle was arrested for misdemeanor possession of cannabis also.  He was given a notice to appear.

Spring trout season begins

With the great weather, it’s perfect timing for the opening of Spring Trout Season in Illinois.

          The season gets underway Saturday with the DNR stocking 43 spots across the state with rainbow trout.  Sites being stocked locally are the Hennepin Canal Parkway in Bureau County, I&M Canal in Utica, and Gebhard Woods State Park in Grundy County.

          All fishermen or women need a valid fishing license and an inland trout stamp.  The daily possession limit for trout is five.
