Bureau County United Way comes up short of their goal

The Bureau County United Way came up short on their fundraising goal. Their goal was 127 thousand dollars, they were able to collect 103 thousand of it. This is the second year in a row they haven’t met their goal. The Bureau County United Way is partnered with fifteen nonprofit organizations including the Bureau County Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Bureau County Food Pantry. Numbers are down, but they’re already planning more fundraisers. One of them is a golf scramble this July.

Central School remains popular name in Ottawa

The voters have spoken in Ottawa.  They want the new elementary school to keep the name Central School.

 With around 100 surveys returned, 58 people voted not to change the name of Central Elementary School when the new school goes up on the south edge of town.  The school board is expected to vote on the school name next month.

 As for what the new school’s mascot will be, students in the elementary district voted.  The current nickname of Cyclones won the vote with 262 votes.  A close second was Eagles at 260 votes.  The third choice was Cougars with 257 votes. 

The consensus of the school board is to go with the top vote getter and stick with Cyclones.

Heads are still being shaved to help fight cancer

St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, but St. Baldrick’s keeps going.  A fundraiser for the cause that raises money and awareness of childhood cancer is Friday at Ladd Lanes.  They’ll have a bowling special, two games and shoes for a $20.  $14 of that will be given to St. Baldrick’s.  Bowling starts at 6pm.  The DJ & Karoake will start at 9pm.

Sunday many will say goodbye to their hair during an event at Senica’s Oak Ridge.  Among those shaving their head is Oglesby Mayor Tony Torres.

Cocaine and heroin charges for woman on parole

A parole check didn’t go well for a woman in Marseilles.  Danielle Dilley was arrested on cocaine and heroin related charges after a parole agent and members of TRIDENT went through her place Thursday.

          Investigators say they found drugs and other things related to drug activity.

          Dilley was taken to the La Salle County Jail.
