Man Accused Of Swinging Weapon At IHOP

IHOP is usually hoping during the early morning hours.  It definitely wasn’t empty Sunday morning.

The police were called to the Peru IHOP for a man accused of swinging a box cutter at someone.  Joseph Brewer of Chicago was arrested for aggravated assault.

He was released after posting bond.

Mega Millions Winner Still A Secret

The man who bought a winning Mega Millions ticket in Hennepin won’t be known until Tuesday.

The owner of Hennepin Food Mart, Anton Dzierzynski says he knows who the winner but has been asked not to say who he is until Tuesday.  The food mart sold the ticket which matched all six numbers after the drawing Friday night.

The ticket is estimated to be worth 20 million dollars.

Streator Selects Mayor

An interim mayor has been picked in Streator.

Councilman Jimmie Lansford was picked by his fellow council members this morning to replace the late Ray Schmitt.  Schmitt died last Tuesday at the age of 68.

Lansford will serve as mayor through next year.  His council seat is now open.

United Way still reaching for annual goal

About $3000 is needed by 5pm Monday if the United Way of the Illinois Valley wants to meet their annual goal. 

Andrea Walters, the group’s executive director, says this morning Hometown National Bank pledged $500 and she thinks they’ll be challenging other area banks to match that.  They’ve also received other smaller donations, including their first online donation.

Their goal is $340,000.  They raised $3400 over the weekend.

Flood warning issued for Illinois River

The Illinois River remains up.  A flood warning remains at Ottawa and La Salle.  Flooding is minor and is only expected to be minor.
