Man arrested on cocaine charge

Throwing something in the trash won’t make it disappear.  A man from outside of Ottawa faces a cocaine related charge after police say they watched him toss four and a half grams of the drug into the trash.

Ottawa Police officers went to Robert Davis’s place in Datti’s Trailer Park Monday while investigating something that happened in town.

While there, police say they saw Davis throw the drugs into a trash can.  TRIDENT was called and Davis was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.  Davis was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Dangerous driving conditions on I-39

The snow has moved on, but it’s still causing problems on area roads.  Be careful and slow down.  As of late Wednesday morning, IDOT says Interstates 80 and 39 are patchy.  Rural roads and secondary highways may still be snow covered.

A stretch of I-39 south of Oglesby has already seen two accidents today.  Neither was serious.

New Legislative Session Today

After last week’s hoopla over the primary election, time to get back down to business in Springfield.  The house and senate are back in session today.

State Representative Frank Mautino says the session will be dominated by budget related issues with “things as bad as they are”.  Locally, Mautino says he’ll be pushing through a bill to get the Vermilion River back open to recreation while also working on legislation to keep the wind farms coming.

Mautino says the way wind farms are assessed taxes goes away next year.  He says the law needs to be extended or wind developers will stop developing.

Area Native Killed In Crash

A La Salle native was killed last week in a car crash outside Los Angeles.

45 year old Holly Dawn White was pronounced dead at the scene last Wednesday morning after crashing into a building.  According to media reports, White failed to stop at the end of a freeway and hit a building in Long Beach.  She was thrown from her car.

Winter Storm Warning Continues

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the  until 9am on Wednesday.

The warning is in effect because of the chance of snow and blowing snow.

The latest forecast calls for a chance of 8 to 10 inches by time the storm ends Wednesday.  The worst case of blowing snow will be Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
