Peru offers special needs premise alert program

Posted by wlpo on January 28, 2010

Calling 911 is one of your best options during an emergency and if you or someone in your home have a special need or a disability you may want the dispatcher to know.
People in Peru can start signing up for a special needs premise alert program.  It’s a way for the 911 dispatcher to know if someone has a special need that may be an important factor during an emergency.
The program is voluntary and it only works with land line phones.
Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei explained it to the city council Wednesday night.  He says the information will be kept confidential and only used during an emergency.
You can sign up for the program by filling out forms which are available at the police department and cityhall.
