Red Cross offers different ways to donate to Haiti effort

You can’t turn on your radio or TV without hearing about the devastation an earthquake has caused in Haiti.  If you would like to help out, the Red Cross is taking donations.

One was is to call 1-800 Red Cross.  You can also text a donation by texting the word “Haiti” to 90999.  It’s an automatic $10 donation.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Red Cross office in Peru.

Three face felony theft charges after stop in La Salle

Market tires and rims police say were stolen from a truck in La Salle have three people facing felony theft charges.

A traffic stop early Thursday morning in La Salle lead police to Joshua Staufield of La Salle and Krysta Burton and Glenn Bland of Princeton.  Police say they took the tires and rims from a truck that was parked in the 800 block of 27th Street.

Staufield was also given a couple of traffic tickets.  They were taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Labrorers protest Ottawa hotel construction

A new Fairfield Inn & Suites in Ottawa is drawing the ire of a local union.

          Members of the Laborers’ Local 393 out of Marseilles Thursday stood near the hotel project next to an inflatable rate.  The union members had a sign saying “PEAK unfair to Laborers’ Local 393”.  PEAK is referring to Peak Construction out of Lisle who is the general contractor of the project.

          The $9 million hotel project is expected to open this summer.

Drug charge after parole check

A new drug charge for a woman on parole for a drug conviction.  Investigators with TRIDENT says they found heroin and other things related to drugs after searching her Peru apartment Wednesday.

Bobbie Housby was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony.  She was taken to the La Salle County Jail.
