Utica Still Dealing with 2008 Flood

Posted by wlpo on January 14, 2010

Ten businesses and homes in Utica may have to be demolished or elevated because of recent flooding.

Building Inspector Tom Brown told village trustees last night that the ten buildings have enough damage from the September 2008 flood that they need to be brought down or raised above the flood plain.  Brown says a few of the buildings are abandoned and one owner already plans on letting the fire department burn their building down for training.  Brown also says people owning these buildings could get help with grants.

Also relating to the 2008 flood, trustees decided to waive all building and permit fees retroactive to September of 2008.
