Senator Reacts To Governor’s Speech

Posted by wlpo on January 14, 2010

In making his first formal State of the State address, Governor Pat Quinn pushed hard for job creation.

He pointed to jobs that’ll be created with a major public works program and sale of Thomson Prison.  State Senator Gary Dahl took in the hour and 20 minute speech.  Dahl agrees the state needs jobs but wants more long-term employment options.  Dahl says the state needs to do more to entice businesses to come here.

Governor Quinn also talked yesterday about the need to increase tax revenues.  Dahl is against any tax increase until many other avenues are used to try and straighten the budget.  He claims there is “hundreds of millions of dollars of waste” that needs to be cut before asking you for more tax money.
