Texting and drinking tickets after minor accident in La Salle

Posted by wlpo on January 9, 2010

Drunk texting is bad.  Drunk driving presumably is worse.  A man arrested in La Salle is accused after doing both after someone hit a parked pickup truck Friday evening.

Ricky Jenkins was also arrested for illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to reduce speed, obstructed windshield and other charges.  Police think he was the one who hit the truck near 5th and Crosat Streets.

Driving while texting became unlawful in Illinois on January 1.  This is one of the first tickets to be issued locally for the offense.

Jenkins was released on an I-bond.
