Republican candidate’s forum rescheduled

Bad weather has forced local Republican groups to reschedule a candidate’s forum that was to be tonight at Illinois Valley Community College.

          The forum will instead be held on Tuesday, January 26.  Times will remain the same with a meet and greet from 6pm until 7:30pm.  That’ll be followed by the forum.  Candidates will give an introduction and take questions from the audience.

Drugs and a gun allegedly found during parole check

Ecstasy, marijuana and a pistol are what police say they found during a parole check in Oglesby. 

          Casey Nagle was arrested Tuesday after police with TRIDENT searched his place as part of a parole check.  Police say they found 100 pills, 31 grams of marijuana and a Jennings 22 caliber pistol.  They also say Nagle had other things you’d have if you were a drug dealer.

          Nagle was arrested on three felony charges and was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Pet crematory proposed in Ottawa

The corner of Route 6 and Boyce Memorial Drive in Ottawa could soon be home to a pet crematory.

          The Ottawa City Council this week approved a conditional use permit for Bill Byczynski to open a crematory.  Byczynski says he has talked to neighbors and told them there will be no odor or visible emissions from the crematory oven.  He thinks he’ll do one or two cremations a week.

          The EPA still needs to approve the crematory.

Roads snow covered as winter storm warning remains

Regardless of where you’re going, roads will be snow covered.  Getting around is difficult this morning.  There have been instances of people driving off of the road or becoming stuck on hills.  Be careful and give yourself extra time.

          A winter storm warning remains in place until Friday morning.
