New Swine Flu Reports

Two more people in La Salle County have been hospitalized because of swine flu since last week.

The latest cases are with a 53 year old man and 49 year old man.  Twenty-two people have now been hospitalized in La Salle County because of swine flu.  Also an 18 year old woman was killed because of the virus.

According to the La Salle County Health Department, 14 of the 22 hospitalizations have been women.

Woman dies after crash near Sheffield

A crash in Bureau County killed a woman from rural Sheffield.  55 year old LuAnn Jensen was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 6/ Route 34 and Route 40.

It’s being investigated by the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department.

Shotgun deer season resumes Thursday

The second part of shotgun deer season in Illinois gets going Thursday.

During the first weekend of the shotgun deer season, 756 deer were brought down in La Salle County.  That was 200 less than the first shotgun season in 2008.  Bureau County hunters killed 820 deer during this year’s opening season, also down around 200 from the year before.  In Putnam County, 365 deer were brought down compared to 361 last year.

Statewide, over 66,000 deer were killed during the opening season, down from 71,000 a year ago.
