Firefighters respond to recycling bin fire in La Salle

Posted by wlpo on November 24, 2009

That wasn’t a heavy fog rolling into downtown La Salle, it was smoke.
Fire fighters ripped through a bin full of cardboard after it started on fire Tuesday night. It happened in the NewsTribune parking lot.  The fire was spotted shortly before 8pm.  Firefighters were on the scene for about 40 minutes.
A truck parked next to the bin appears to be okay even after flames shot well over the height of the truck.
It’s not the first time the recycling bin has started on fire.  It’s unclear what started the fire.

Four kids suspected of Oglesby vandalism

Posted by wlpo on November 24, 2009

A vandalism spree in Oglesby could give you the impression the city has a gang problem, but police don’t think that’s the case.

Three fifteen year olds and a 16 year old were arrested after police say they spray painted Gangster Disciple symbols on over a dozen buildings and two trucks.  The graffiti was found last Thursday.

Police say the kids aren’t affiliated with the gang.

Charges, that could be made felonies, have been referred to the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s office.   The kids were released to their parents.

One arrested and more could be for allegedly mailing drugs

Posted by wlpo on November 24, 2009

A package sent from Texas to a man in Peru wasn’t an early Christmas present.  Investigators say 3200 grams of marijuana and about five grams of cocaine were sent to Jorge Alexandro Goyre last week.

Goyre was arrested after local drug investigators had the mail carrier deliver the package last Tuesday.  Shortly after it was delivered, police with TRIDENT searched Goyre’s home where they say they found the drugs on the kitchen table.

Police think it’s not the first package of drugs to be sent from Texas.

The investigation continues.  More arrests are expected.  Goyre’s is being held in the La Salle County Jail on charges of cannabis trafficking and possession of cocaine.
