Peru introduces home energy saving program

Posted by wlpo on November 18, 2009

Buying a new refrigerator?  Homeowners in Peru who buy new, more energy efficient appliances could get a reimbursement from the city.
Peru officials are considering an energy savings program called “Watts Wiser.”  It’s designed to educate people on how they can cut their energy usage and save money.  It will also provide reimbursements to homeowners who replace appliances for ones that are Energy Star rated and have the energy star label.  They must be purchased in Peru and the old appliance has to be junked.
The program would also provide scholarships to area schools.
The item will be on Monday night’s agenda.  Alderman Dave Potthoff is the one spear-heading the program.  He’s hoping to have it in place by December 1.  The reimbursements would last until a $20,00 allotment form the electric department runs out.
