OHS school board approves teacher’s contract

Posted by wlpo on October 28, 2009

A tentative three-year teacher’s contract has been approved by the Ottawa High School Board of Education.

The board voted on the deal during a special meeting Wednesday morning.  Teachers voted on the agreement late Sunday night, ending a teacher’s strike that started September 30.

Under the contract, teachers will receive 1% pay raise in year one, a 1.3%raise in year two, and a 1.6% raise in year three.

Teachers will contribute 10% of the annual cost of family health insurance.  For single coverage, they’ll pay $30 a month during the first year, with the monthly rate increasing by $10 the following years.

Strike days will be made-up so that the students would not miss out on classroom-time.  To make up for lost time, classes will meet on Veterans’ Day, Martin Luther Kings’ Birthday, Pulaski Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, December 21, 22, March 29, 30, 31, and April 1 and 5.  Five days will also be tacked onto the end of the school year.
