Strike Continues At Ottawa High

Posted by wlpo on October 11, 2009

After around two hours of meeting, the Ottawa High School Board and teacher’s association was again unable to come to a new contract agreement.

The teacher’s union claims the board walked out of negotiations an hour and a half after getting a new proposal.  Union President Glenn Weatherford says the board “is locked into its anger”.  He claims the impasse is no longer about salary and insurance but the board wanting to break the teacher’s union.

Board President George Hupp says concessions were made with salary and health insurance and wants the board’s proposal voted on by all the teachers, not just those on the negotiating team.  Hupp says as long as school is back in session on or before Wednesday, there won’t be “dock days” for days missed during the strike.
