Steel workers have until Friday to accept job offer

Posted by wlpo on September 14, 2009

Former Mittal steel workers have until Friday morning to decide if they want to be hired back to help remove machinery from the plant.
The plant in Hennepin has been closed since March. The company has tried removing equipment, but a group of former employees have been picketing at the plant’s gates.
Mittal is offering 31 fulltime jobs removing equipment based on sonority.
Dave York is the president of United Steelworkers Local 367. He says they have until 10am Friday to reply to the offer. They would return to work next Monday.
Meanwhile, a steelmaker from California is trying to show Mittal that he’s serious about buying their plant. His offers have so far been turned down. York expects to know more about that situation later this week.
