Fire displaces people living in Mendota apartments

Posted by wlpo on September 12, 2009

A house fire in Mendota has displaced a family and another person. A person living in the upstairs apartment of the house on 3rd Street smelled smoke and reported the fire around 6pm Friday.

Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser says the fire started in the downstairs apartment’s kitchen, though the cause is uncertain. A person living in that unit wasn’t home at the time.

Troy Grove helped at the scene while Peru was on standby at the Mendota station. Rutishauser put that damage at $50,000.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
