St. Margaret’s Hospital to close skilled care unit

If you find yourself under the knife at St. Margaret’s Hospital and needing skilled care, you wouldn’t be staying in a special unit.
Hospital officials told about 24 employees Thursday they’re doing away with the skilled care unit. Instead, patients will receive skilled care while staying in the medical-surgical area of the hospital.
St. Margaret’s CEO and president Tim Muntz says the change is the most efficient way. He says the unit used to have 30 patients at a time but these days they have about nine.
The unit’s staff has the chance to bid for the new positions, but Muntz says there are more people on staff than there are openings.
The unit will stop accepting patients on October 11.
