La Salle renews membership with IVAC

La Salle is sticking with the chamber of commerce. After tabling the question of whether or not to renew their annual membership, the council Monday night voted to stay a member of the Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.
The aldermen were torn on the idea of spending $13,000 for membership, especially the city has an economic development director on staff full-time. Alderman Diz Demes said he didn’t think IVAC was the best way to spend their money during these tough financial times.
Alderman George Green disagreed. He thought the city needs all the tools they can get.
Before voting, Barb Koch, IVAC Executive Director, had another chance to talk to the council and take their comments. Mayor Jeff Grove told her he thought they should be part of IVAC for another year but there would be expectations and he would want to receive more feedback.
Koch told Grove she would be in contact.
