More students at IVCC

Posted by wlpo on August 19, 2009

When the fall semester started Monday, parking lot spaces at Illinois Valley Community College could’ve been a lot harder to get than last fall.
IVCC President Jerry Corcoran says fall enrollment is up around 4% while credit hour numbers are up 13% from fall of 2008. He says the summer semester was even more impressive with enrollment up 20% and credit hours up over 30% from 2008. To put it in perspective, Corcoran says he usually budgets for a 1% increase or decrease for enrollment.
In the 20 years he’s been involved with IVCC, Corcoran says it’s the biggest enrollment jump he has seen. He thinks the area unemployment rate is the biggest factor. He also thinks aggressive marketing and lower costs has helped enrollment numbers.
