Group puts pressure on Ottawa about Ameren lines

Posted by wlpo on August 5, 2009

Several rounds of applause were given at last night’s Ottawa City Council meeting but none were for the council itself.
The clapping Tuesday night was for four people who pleaded to the council that they rescind their votes supporting Ameren putting up transmission lines along the Illinois River.
Some speakers claimed they were told by Ameren another route was going to be picked so they were blindsided when the city agreed to go up Champlain Street along the Fox River, thru Dayton and Skydive Chicago and ending at Wedron.
Twila Yednock claimed a group opposing the Route 71 route “pulled the wool over the cities eyes” by hiring high-priced lawyers to mislead the council.
Commissioner Dale Baxter told the crowd that no matter what route the council chose someone would be unhappy.
The council decided to think about rescinding their support of putting power lines along the river and could do a formal vote next meeting.
