Old Flower Shop Catches Fire

An old flower shop caught fire last night in Streator.

Firefighters got a 911 call just after nine last night about an empty building at 314 West Bridge Street catching fire. The fire was out in about an hour and no major structural damage was done. There was some smoke and water damage.

The owner of the building is Bruce Goodman. He was apparently turning it into rental space.

Fire officials think the cause was electrical.

Man hospitalized after falling from truck

Riding in the back of a pickup truck can be dangerous. Police say a man fell from the back of truck and hit the road on Route 6 near Spring Valley Sunday.
Police say Russell Sakes of La Salle fell when he reached for a box that was about to fly out of the back.
Sakes was in fair condition after being taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Bridge work closes portion of Jack Dougherty Road

If you normally take Jack Dougherty Road, you may have to start going a little out of your way. A portion of the road, also known as La Salle County Highway 6, will be closed starting Monday while a bridge is replaced.
The road will be closed a half a mile southest of the Deer Park Blacktop.
The bridge work is expected to last until November. A detour will not be posted.

House burns in Allen Township

A fire at an empty house in Allen Township is being investigated. Five fire departments went out to the blaze on Richards Road, east of the Kernan Blacktop at 5am Monday.
Allen Township Fire Chief Paul Walkling says it was fully involved when they arrived. No one was living in the home, but the electricity was hooked up.
The house is owned by Andrew Downey.
It’s not clear what caused the fire.
