Brick streets are a dying breed and the city of Ottawa is trying to take care of what they have.
The city is accepting bids until August 3rd for about $100,000 worth of brick road repairs. They set aside that much money every year for brick streets.
The stretches that’ll have work done in the next few months are on: Campbell Street between 1st and Catherine Street; Leland Street between Madison and Main Streets; Bissell Street and Illinois Avenue; and the 700 block of Poplar Street.
Streets Commissioner Dale Baxter said if there’s money to spare, they’ll also redo a part of Paul Street just north of Route 6.

Work on La Salle school addition nearing completion
Posted by wlpo on July 22, 2009
A month from now two classrooms recently added to Northwest School will be filled with children, until then construction workers are finishing up what’s left. Work is also being done in a hallway.
Superintendant Dan Marenda took a walk through the construction area Tuesday. He says the windows, doors, and ceilings are done in the classrooms. In the hallway the ceiling and minor electric things need to be completed. A parking lot will be paved during the last week of the month.
The addition was estimated to cost about $637,000. It’s not intended to increase enrollment at Northwest School.
