3 Killed in Car-Train accident in LaSalle County

Three people have died after their car was hit by an Amtrak train west of Somonauk.

LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton said Monday that five
people were in the car when it was hit by the train
just after three yesterday afternoon. Two other passengers were hurt. Templeton says evidence shows the car didn’t stop before crossing the tracks and was hit by the lead engine of the train.

Two of the deceased were identified as 82-year-old Benjamin
Rasmusen and 81-year-old Marilyn Rasmusen of Leland. The third
victim was not immediately identified.
