Lawmakers head back to Springfield this week to hammer out a budget and a way to fund it. Governor Pat Quinn has threatened large cuts to state services if a funding source such as an income tax increase isn’t approved.
While an income tax increase remains unpopular with most legislators, it has the backing of many employees working in human services that rely on state money.
Workers will be at lawmakers’ offices across the state Monday as part of what they’re calling a “Send-Off to Springfield.”
Locally, they plan on being at State Senator Gary Dahl’s Peru office from 10:15am until 4:30pm.
