Two years since couple’s death and still no trial

Stays in the county jail usually last a year at the most but a man from Seneca is going on two years at Etna Road.
Saturday is the two-year anniversary of investigators finding Al and Catherine Twardowski dead in their rural Seneca home. Keith Mackowiak was charged with the murders, but still hasn’t been tried for the crime.
Mackowiak has played a role in delaying things by wanting to fire his attorneys on different occasions. Another big delay has been a host of doctors examining Mackowiak’s mental state.
La Salle County State’s Attorney Brian Towne says a capital litigation fund in Illinois gives lawyers a chance to have examination after examination, slowing things down.
Towne says the case has been a heavy burden but it needs to be done right for the Twardowski family.
