Crash Causes Power Outages In Bureau County

Nearly 17 hundred people lost power in Bureau County Monday night after an ultralight plane crashed into a power line.

The Bureau County Sheriff’s Office says Richard Besler of Ohio was piloting an ultralight Monday night when he hit the power line on the northeast side of Ohio. Besler and his passenger refused treatment on the scene.

Over 16 hundred ComEd customers in Ohio and Walnut lost power for about seven hours after the crash.

Autopsy Results For Golf Cart Victim

The Peru woman who was killed last week after getting hit by a golf cart apparently died from chest injuries.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson says preliminary autopsy results showed 88 year old Virginia Armon was killed by “crushing chest injuries”. He wouldn’t say exactly how she was hurt in the chest.

Rock Island Police say that Armon was hit Friday afternoon by a golf cart that was being used as a shuttle at Jumer’s Casino and Hotel in Rock Island. She was pronounced dead later at a hospital.

Homelessness Brought To Light In Ottawa

Ottawa doesn’t really have a homeless problem but there will be dozens of people sleeping in cardboard boxes in town tonight.

“A Servant’s Heart” along with several churches are organizing “A Night Without a Home” event in Washington Square. Over 70 people are expected to camp out in the park in a cardboard box to raise awareness of homelessness. The event starts at six tonight and ends at seven tomorrow.

People sleeping in the park can bring one comfort item and are asked to bring five dollars worth of nonperishable food, diapers or toiletries.

Area Rodeo Champion Is Crowned

A soon to be senior at L-P High School is a two sport athlete. One is basketball the other….rodeo.

Brock Pezanoski of Waltham Township won a state rodeo title last weekend in the category of tie-down calf roping. The finals were held in Southern Illinois.

Pezanoski is also an all-conference caliber basketball player for the Cavaliers.

Boy drowns while swimming in Vermillion River

Swimming is a fun way to beat the heat but it has to be done safely. A 15 year old boy from Oglesby is dead after investigators say he drowned while swimming in the Vermillion River near Oglesby Tuesday afternoon.
Police say Isak Penrod was swimming with two other teens near the pump house when he went under and never came back up.
His body was eventually found and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
