State takes action against gypsy moths

Posted by wlpo on June 23, 2009

There’s another pest besides Emerald Ash Borer to worry about.
Illinois Department of Agriculture workers will be spraying all over La Salle County this week, trying to kill Gypsy Moths.
Jim Cavanaugh says the moths are as big of pests as the more infamous Emerald Ash Borers.
State workers will spray over 1200 acres in Marseilles, over 900 acres at Starved Rock, and over 400 acres in Oglesby and Sheridan. A small part of Matthiessen State Park will be sprayed in Oglesby.
The DNR says they’re using a new spray called “SPLAT”. It limits the gypsy moth mating process. “SPLAT” isn’t harmful to humans.
