Debit Card Theif Sentenced

38 year old Marjorie Girard of Ottawa was given 60 days in jail and over two years probation Friday after pleading guilty to ringing up over 700 dollars on someone else’s debit card.

Girard was arrested earlier this year by Ottawa Police after a victim reported the charges on her Old Second Bank card. Girard apparently used it to buy things like cigarettes and a video game.

She’s already served 30 days in jail.

What To Do With Historic House In La Salle?

A historic home in La Salle could one day be used for community events and programs but it’s going to take some work.

The Julius W. Hegeler home is the large house across the street from the Hegeler-Carus Mansion. A public meeting is being held Monday to go over its history and talk about its future. You’ll hear a brief presentation, learn about plans for the home and be able to participate in an open discussion.

The meeting is Monday evening at seven in the Hegeler-Carus Mansion.

Two Bikers Hurt in La Salle Crash

Michael and Lisa Maciejewski of St. Charles were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital yesterday after crashing their Harley on Interstate 39.

State Police say Michael was driving the bike, heading southbound near the Route 6 exit when he lost control.

Golf Cart Kills Peru Woman

An 88-year old woman from Peru is dead after being hit by a golf cart.

Virginia Armon was pronounced dead at a Rock Island Hospital after being hit Friday at Jumer’s Casino in Rock Island.

The golf cart was apparently being used as a shuttle of sorts at the casino. The driver put it into reverse and then hit Armon.

An autopsy is planned Monday.
